Dolphin Splash Principal's News

August 31, 2026

Dear Davis Families,

Our first two weeks of school have been great—what a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at Back to School Night this Wednesday, and I can't wait for another incredible week ahead with all of our Davis Dolphins!

Davis Back to School Night: We are hosting our annual Back to School Night Wednesday, September 2nd, 5:30–7:10pm. All parents/guardians are invited to visit your child’s classroom and meet with your child’s teacher. This is a time to learn more about the classroom routine, expectations, and other important topics. Be sure to stop by the lobby before or after your classroom sessions- You can learn more about our PTA, visit the voter registration table, and drop by to say hello—I’ll be hanging out in the lobby for most of the evening and would love to chat. Here is the schedule for the classroom sessions:

  • PK: 6:05–6:35pm & 6:40–7:10pm
  • K: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm
  • 1st: 6:05–6:35pm & 6:40–7:10pm
  • 2nd: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm
  • 3rd: 6:05–6:35pm & 6:40–7:10pm
  • 4th: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm
  • 5th: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm
  • ECSE/Life Skills/SCORES/SBS: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm

This event is an information session for parents/guardians, so please make child care arrangements if possible. If not possible, you are welcome to bring your children so you can be there to get all of the information.

Davis Assistant Principals: We’ve started the year with substitute assistant principals for our 1.5 AP positions, due to vacancies in these positions. We are so fortunate to have the support of former AISD Principals Kim Placker, Dr. Cathryn Mitchell, and Ron Gonzales as our AP subs. They’ll each be spending time at Davis over the next few weeks as we work to fill the AP positions, so you may get to see them or hear from them. Make sure to give them a warm Davis welcome when you see them!

Campus Advisory Council (CAC)- Invitation to Join & Meeting Thursday: We are in need of parent representatives for the Davis CAC and I’d like to invite everyone to consider being a CAC member. All are welcome to join and no experience is necessary! Davis CAC meets monthly on Thursday afternoons, 3:30-4:30pm. Child care is available. All meetings are open meetings and anyone is welcome to attend. Our first meeting will be this Thursday, September 3rd. If interested in being a CAC member, please complete this application: https://www.austinisd.org/advisory-bodies/cac/application. You may also email me at jennifer.daniels@austinisd.org if you’d like more information. Campus Advisory Councils are committees of parents, business/community representatives, teachers, principals, and other campus staff. Specific functions of CACs include providing review and comment on: Campus Educational Program, Campus Performance, Campus Improvement Plan, Campus Staff Development Plan, Campus Budget. For more information about CAC, visit https://www.austinisd.org/advisory-bodies/cac

MAP Growth Reading & Math Assessments: All students in Kindergarten-5th grade will take the MAP Growth assessment at the beginning, middle, and end of this school year. This is an online assessment that measures student achievement and growth, with the goal being to see student growth over the course of the year. The beginning of year testing window opens this week. Students in K-1st grade will take the test in small group over the next couple of weeks. Students in 2nd-5th grade will take the tests on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Teachers will communicate results to parents and will use the data, along with additional information about each student, to plan for instruction, intervention and enrichment.
