Library

Welcome to the Davis Elementary Library!

Your child has started or will start checking out books. Below, I have provided information on the library process, policies, and frequently asked questions. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance as we navigate the 2025-2026 school year together.

LIBRARY VISITS AND CHECKOUT

The Davis Library works on a rotational A/B week schedule.

  • A Schedule: Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students visit the library on a specific day and time for a hands-on, interactive library lesson with book checkout.
    • Open Checkout Times: Are available throughout the A/B schedule so students can visit as new books are needed. It is at the discretion of the classroom teacher and their daily schedule to allow students to visit the Library flexibly.
  • B Schedule: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students visit the library on a specific day and time for a hands-on, interactive library lesson with book checkout.
    • Open Checkout Times: Are available throughout the A/B schedule so students can visit as new books are needed. It is at the discretion of the classroom teacher and their schedule to allow students to visit the library flexibly.

Students may check out two books at a time.

  • When your child brings the book home, please spend time reading it together. 😊
  • If your child can read independently, listen to him or her read the book and help with words they may not know.
  • We want your child to love reading, so please make the time you share books together special.

OVERDUE BOOKS

There are no fines for overdue books, but please encourage your child to return his or her books before their scheduled visit.

  • Students that are blocked cannot checkout new material until all overdue items are returned.
  • An overdue notice will be sent as a helpful reminder of book title, due date, and cost.

LOST OR DAMAGED BOOKS

Sometimes accidents happen. If a library book is lost or damaged while checked out to your child, the book must be replaced. This is done in one of two ways:

  • A library bound copy of the original book can be purchased from any retail source.
  • The book can be paid for by check to Davis Elementary School or utilizing the electronic School Cash Online option for the original retail price.

Once either of the above options is completed, your child’s account will be cleared, and he or she may resume library checkout.

HOW TO HELP

You can help your child by:

  • Finding a safe place for his or her library books away from younger siblings and pets.
  • Reminding your child to use clean hands when handling the book and to turn pages gently.
  • Encourage your child to read for enjoyment.
  • Discuss favorite characters, illustrations, and important parts of the story.
  • Reread the books and consider elements like setting and theme.
