International Week is a school wide unit of study that celebrates the diversity of the Davis community and exposes students to cultures around the world. This student experience supports our goal for all Davis students to be culturally competent citizens.
International Week begins with our Family Culture Fair, where all Davis families are invited to host a table to share about their culture through pictures, artifacts, and food tastings. All Davis students visit the culture fair to learn about the many cultures represented by our Davis families. Other school wide activities during International Week include our Jog Around the World Turkey Trot fun run and the International Assembly, where 3rd grade students perform songs from around the world.
Throughout International Week, each grade level focuses on learning about a different continent through a variety of activities that actively involve and engage students:
- PK: Welcome from around the world
- K: Asia
- 1st Grade: Australia
- 2nd Grade: Africa
- 3rd Grade: South America
- 4th Grade: Europe
- 5th Grade: North America
Each teacher at the grade level hosts all grade level students in learning about a different country or region within the designated continent. Students in K-5th grade take their 'passports' to the different classrooms that they visit over the course of International Week to have them stamped. By the time students leave Davis at the end of 5th grade, they will have traveled around the world!
