Project Lead the Way Launch (PLTW)

We are proud to be one of the few AISD elementary campuses to offer Project Lead the Way Launch to all Davis students. PLTW engages students in learning science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts through an approach called APB- Activities, Projects, and Problem-Based Learning experiences. The PLTW program describes PLTW Launch as follows:

PLTW Launch taps into students’ exploratory nature, engages them in learning that feels like play, and encourages them to keep discovering – now and for years to come. Whether designing a car safety belt or building digital animations, students engage in critical and creative thinking, build teamwork skills, and learn to try and try again when faced with challenges.

At Davis, students at each grade experience at least two PLTW learning modules each year.  Some examples of the grade level PLTW module topics are:

  • PK: Healthy Habits, Life Science: Living and Nonliving Things
  • K: Structure and Function: Human Body, Living Things: Needs and Impact
  • 1st Grade: Animal Adaptations, Animated Storytelling
  • 2nd Grade: Materials Science: Properties of Matter, The Changing Earth
  • 3rd Grade: Weather: Factors and Hazards, Stability and Motion: Forces and Interactions
  • 4th Grade: Earth: Past, Present and Future, Input/Output: Computer Systems
  • 5th Grade: Robotics and Automation, Infection: Detection
