The Anderson vertical team (AVT) consists of Anderson High School, Murchison Middle School, Davis, Doss, Hill, Pillow, and Summitt. Our vertical team exists for many reasons, all of which benefit our students. The vertical team members work together to promote teamwork among all schools and to help students navigate the transitions between elementary, middle, and high school from an emotional and academic standpoint.
One World Schools
Our One World Schools signature program was developed by the Anderson vertical team schools as a way to strengthen educational experiences while preparing all students to graduate ready for college, career and life in a globally competitive economy. Students at each campus are provided opportunities for learning that reach far beyond standard curriculum. One World Schools focus on global learning within four clearly defined areas:
- language development
- technology proficiency
- fine arts
- community service
In addition to core curriculum, students participate in rigorous, culturally relevant, and engaging educational experiences in these areas that prepare them to be competent global citizens and innovative leaders of tomorrow.
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
Murchison and Anderson are certified AVID schools. AVID fosters a safe and open culture, high expectations for teachers and students, and collaboration in all classrooms. All students at AVT elementary schools are exposed to AVID learning strategies. While all students at Murchison and Anderson also experience AVID learning strategies, students at the secondary level have the opportunity to enroll in AVID electives.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Program
Murchison and Anderson are certified International Baccalaureate® (IB) program schools. The IB program provides rigorous learning experiences to students, while promoting critical thinking and a global perspective. All students at Murchison are immersed in IB experiences, while students at Anderson have an opportunity to participate in the IB certificate or IB diploma program.
AVT & ACPTA Collaboration
The principals, PTA presidents, and Austin Council of PTAs (ACPTA) representatives from each vertical team school meet twice/year to discuss issues, share ideas, brainstorm solutions, and coordinate curriculum. These meetings are coordinated by an AVT representative of the ACPTA.
