Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readinessWICOR and success in a global society. WICOR is the AVID instructional framework and stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading.

The AVID goals at Davis for the 2023-2024 school year are centered around Organization and Collaboration. Students in K-5th grade use planners to reflect and organize their thoughts on their learning and use focus note-taking to organize their ideas as they learn new information. At each grade level, students learn Collaboration structures that build in complexity over the course of the year and as they progress through grade levels.

AVID strategies that students learn at Davis prepare them for success as they advance to our AVID certified vertical team secondary schools, Murchison MS and Anderson HS.
