Dolphin Splash: Davis Elementary Principal's News- September 15, 2024

September 15, 2024

Dear Davis Families,

It has been a busy and productive first four weeks of school here at Davis Elementary! Students are settled in to their new classes and doing well. Read on for some important updates about Davis happenings.

MAP Growth Assessments: All K-5th students take the MAP Growth Reading and Math assessments at the beginning, middle and end of each year. We are well into our beginning of year MAP testing and most students have already completed them. The test administration deadline is this Friday, so all students will have completed the assessments by then. MAP Growth provides data regarding student achievement and growth over time. Teachers use this data to monitor student progress and to inform instructional planning. Teachers will share student MAP Growth information at the October parent/teacher conferences.

TEA Safety Audit Passed: We recently had a surprise visit from a TEA (Texas Education Agency) representative, who conducted a safety audit of our campus. This included checking to make sure all exterior and interior doors are locked, checking to make sure an intruder is not able to enter the building, and checking our log of weekly exterior door checks. I’m pleased to share that we passed in all areas. Safety is of course something we take very seriously and will continue to be diligent about at Davis.

Staffing Updates: I have a few staffing updates to share this week.

Krystn Goulet, Special Education Teacher, resigned recently to pursue other endeavors. We are working to fill her position with a highly qualified teacher as soon as possible. In the meantime, we have shifted support within our amazing special education team and recruited a substitute so that all students continue to receive consistent support.

We recently gained a teaching assistant position to add to our special ed team and are working to fill that position soon as well.

We are working to hire another lunch monitor to help in the cafeteria and hope to have an update on that next week.

Our search for a 5th grade Latin teacher continues, as we have not filled that position yet. We do have a wonderful substitute, Mr. Alex, who is filling in as Latin teacher at this time.
