Dear Davis Families,
We’ve got a very short week this week, with school days Monday-Wednesday followed by student holidays Thursday-Friday. This week is Custodian Appreciation Week. Our custodial team works tirelessly to keep our campus clean and safe and we are excited to show Head Custodian Gina Ricks, Esther Marquez, and Eneida Rodriguez Gomez our appreciation for all they do!
Visiting Davis? Have Your ID Ready: This year we have a new system that requires us to scan every visitor’s ID, every time a person visits, no exceptions. This means that visitors must bring an ID card with them every time they enter the building to visit OR to check out a student early. With the new system, we have noticed that it takes longer to check each person in, which results in a line and a long wait for visitors at times. In order to help the check-in process go as quickly as possible, please make sure to have your ID out and ready to scan BEFORE you enter the building. Pro Tip- State Issued IDs are much quicker to scan than passports or photos from your phone. These other options, though acceptable, take much longer because we have to manually enter the information. Lastly, please arrive early for any visit, whether it is to join your child for lunch, check them out for a doctor’s appointment, or visit for a class activity. If you are coming for a grade level event, we always have LOTS of visitors, so we encourage you to arrive 20-30 minutes early on those occasions to make sure you have time to get checked in before the event begins.
AISD New Communication Platform & Davis Alerts: Austin ISD has a new mobile app- Austin ISD, TX. We will soon begin using this app to communicate campus alerts, emergency notifications, and other information to all Davis families via text, email, and/or phone. AISD will also use this platform to communicate district information. This is a one-way communication system that will replace the School Messenger system that was previously used. Since some of the Davis and AISD notifications will be through text, please be mindful of this when you receive a text from a number you may not recognize and do not opt out of receiving these messages to ensure you continue to receive emergency and other notifications. You may download the app on the Apple App store or on Google play. Please note that Davis will still use Class Dojo for sharing classroom and school information, as well as for two-way communication between school and home.
Family Empower Hours: AISD is offering a variety of information sessions, ‘Family Empower Hours’, for families with students who receive special education and 504 services.
