I hope you are all staying warm and safe in this winter weather. As I write this, I’m enjoying watching the snow fall- such a rare occurrence for us. It looks like there is already just enough snow to make at least a tiny snowman today!
TEACHER OF THE YEAR, TEACHER OF PROMISE, & AISD SALUTE
We are thrilled to recognize Halah Helt, Special Education SBS Teacher, as Davis Teacher of the Year, and Madalyn Putman, 2nd Grade Teacher, as Davis Teacher of Promise! These teachers will be honored at a special breakfast in February with Superintendent Matias Segura. The celebration of these amazing teachers will continue at the annual AISD Salute on May 7 at the AISD PAC.
DAVIS STUDENT ENTRY ADVANCES TO PTA REFLECTIONS STATE COMPETITION
Congratulations to Jay’Cion in 2nd grade! His Reflections entry, My Friend Julia, has advanced to state-level judging! This is a wonderful achievement as nearly 60,000 students participate in the program annually and less than 3% of those advance to Texas PTA. Way to go, Jay’Cion!
SECOND NINE-WEEKS REPORT CARDS
Report cards for the second nine-weeks are now available and may be accessed through AISD Parent Self-Serve. As a reminder, report cards are no longer printed and sent home with students, so they must be viewed online. Follow these instructions to view your child’s report card:
- Login to AISD Portal (portal.austinisd.org) and click on the Parent Self-Serve tile.
- Select your student.
- Choose the Report Cards tab.

FAMILY FITNESS NIGHT NEXT TUESDAY
Our annual Family Fitness Night is next Tuesday from 5:30-7:00pm! This event offers an evening of fun and fitness for the whole family. Many Davis teachers and staff will be there hosting activities- jump rope, corn hole, glow-in-the-dark dance party, and scooters, just to name a few. I hope to see you all there!
1st GRADE DYSLEXIA SCREENER
Schools are required to conduct a dyslexia screening for all 1st grade students per Texas Education Code. The purpose of this screening is to identify students who may be at risk for dyslexia and take appropriate next steps. Davis 1st grade teachers have screened most students and will complete all screenings by the end of January. Parents of students identified as at risk for dyslexia will receive a notification letter with more information and details of next steps.
AISD SPECIAL EDUCATION FAMILY LEARNING SESSIONS
Families are encouraged to attend these sessions to learn more about support, community agencies, and services.

SUNSHINE CAMPS
Sunshine Camps offer four sessions of overnight, traditional summer camp, FREE OF CHARGE, for kids aged 8 to 15 who meet one or more of the following requirements: qualify for free/reduced lunch at school or are a child in foster care. Campers ages 10-15 attend sessions that are ten days and nine nights. Campers who are 8 years old attend sessions that are seven days and six nights. Campers who are 9 years old can choose either the ten-day or seven-day option. For more information, visit https://www.sunshinecamps.org/.
