Dear Davis Families,
January seemed to last forever and at the same time it’s hard to believe we’re already in February! We had several special events last month. It was such a pleasure to see our students’ hard work on display at the Davis Science Fair and to see Davis students shine at the annual UIL Academics Meet. We had a great turnout at Family Fitness Night, and I especially enjoyed hanging out with everyone in the glow dancing room! This week, we get to celebrate our awesome school counselors with Counselor Appreciation Week. Amy Cervania and Paige Crain are such a treasure to our school community and we look forward to students, families and staff showing them a little extra love this week!
STAAR INTERIM ASSESSMENTS
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will take STAAR Interim assessments over the course of the next week. These assessments provide opportunities for students to practice navigating the testing platform and give teachers helpful information regarding student mastery of grade level content that informs their instructional planning. 3rd-5th students will take reading and math assessments, and 5th students will also take a science assessment. The annual state STAAR testing will take place in April.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February is Black History Month. This month provides an opportunity for deeper exploration of Black and African-American history than what is taught throughout the year. Our celebration of Black History Month will include morning announcements and displays highlighting specific Black and African-American individuals and their contributions. Teachers will also incorporate resources and stories that are current and local in addition to historical.
