Dolphin Splash Principal's Newsletter August 25, 2025

August 25, 2025

Dear Davis Families,

We had a fantastic first week of school! The 2025-2026 school year is off to such a great start. Each week, I’ll send a note with important campus information and news from AISD. I hope you all have a great day and I’m looking forward to another great week ahead with all of our Davis Dolphins!

Davis Back to School Night: We are hosting our annual Back to School Night Wednesday, September 3rd, 5:307:10pm. All parents/guardians are invited to visit your child’s classroom and meet with your child’s teacher. This is a time to learn more about the classroom routine, expectations, and other important topics. We will also be hosting “Table Talks” in the lobby to provide information on a variety of campus topics and encourage everyone to stop by to learn about campus topics of interest. We’ll send out more information soon on the Table Talk topics. Here is the schedule for the classroom sessions:

  • PK: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm
  • K: 6:05–6:35pm & 6:40–7:10pm
  • 1st: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm
  • 2nd: 6:05–6:35pm & 6:40–7:10pm
  • 3rd: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm
  • 4th: 6:05–6:35pm & 6:40–7:10pm
  • 5th: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm
  • ECSE/Life Skills/SCORES/SBS: 5:30–6:00pm & 6:05-6:35pm

This event is an information session for parents/guardians, so please make child care arrangements if possible. If not possible, you are welcome to bring your children so you can be there to get all of the information.

Lockdown Drill: As part of our safety protocols and procedures, we will be conducting a lockdown drill this week on Wednesday. This is a routine safety practice that helps students and staff know what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency where we would need to secure the building. Please know that teachers explain the drill to students in an age-appropriate, calm, and reassuring way, emphasizing that just like fire drills, this is a way to practice being safe—not because something is wrong. Our goal is to build confidence, not fear.

Campus Advisory Council (CAC)- Invitation to Join: We are in need of parent representatives for the Davis CAC and I’d like to invite everyone to consider being a CAC member. All are welcome to join and no experience is necessary! Davis CAC meets monthly on Thursday afternoons, 3:30-4:30pm. Child care is available. Our first meeting will be Thursday, September 11. If interested, please complete this application: https://www.austinisd.org/advisory-bodies/cac/application. You may also email me at jennifer.daniels@austinisd.org if you’d like more information. Campus Advisory Councils are committees of parents, business/community representatives, teachers, principals, and other campus staff. Specific functions of CACs include providing review and comment on: Campus Educational Program, Campus Performance, Campus Improvement Plan, Campus Staff Development Plan, Campus Budget. For more information about CAC, visit https://www.austinisd.org/advisory-bodies/cac

New Texas Law: No student personal device use during school hours: Texas lawmakers recently passed a law which prohibits students from using personal devices on district premises during school hours. Last week, the AISD school board approved a new student device policy aligned with this new law. The policy is the same as we have had at Davis for the last few years. It is important to note that violation of this policy will result in confiscation of the item. Visit the link below for more details. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1D09XOc29F-PHHI2zk7WEop12RrLNCb-uvefgx09CiQA/edit?usp=sharing
