Dear Davis Families,
The first four weeks at Davis have been full of learning and excitement! Our students have settled into their new classrooms and are doing a fantastic job. As always, there’s lots going on around campus- read on to catch up on the latest news.
MAP Growth Assessments
All K-5th students take the MAP Growth Reading and Math assessments at the beginning, middle and end of each year. We are wrapping up our beginning of year MAP testing and most students have already completed them. MAP Growth provides data regarding student achievement and growth over time. Teachers use this data to monitor student progress and to inform instructional planning. Teachers will share student MAP Growth information at the October parent/teacher conferences.
More Beginning of Year Assessments
Beginning of year activities include a variety of assessments each year. PE teachers are currently conducting the Fitnessgram assessment with students in grades 3-5. PK teachers are working with PK students individually to administer the CLI Engage assessment. Both of these assessments will be given again to measure student progress over the course of the year. Soon, kindergarten teachers will administer the TX-KEA assessment with each K student. This is a one-time test given individually to assess kindergarten readiness. We will also be administering a Gifted and Talented screening assessment to all students in 2nd grade in the upcoming weeks.

Community Access to Playground & Field Areas
All gates around campus are kept locked during school hours for safety and security. Since our after school care programs use the playground area after school hours, we keep the gates locked during those times as well. It’s important to us to provide community access to the playground and field areas at all other times. Each day, Monday-Friday, the east drive gate (the gate near the edge of the main building by the portables) is unlocked at 5:15pm to allow for community access on evenings and weekends.

The AISD Student Success Guide & Code of Conduct includes a wealth of information about AISD discipline policies and systems in place to promote a positive learning environment and safe schools. Please review so you are informed about these district policies.
